Trash-Talker Raking in the Dough

The New York Post revealed on Monday who makes the most and the least dinero in New York City. Katie Couric, the early morning talk show host, came in the top five. She rakes in a staggering $15 million a year. Her cab driver unfortunately makes 24,000 a year, including tips. Here's more...
Vogue Editrix Anna Wintour pulls in $ 2 million yearly, including a fat expense account, car service, hotel suites at Paris' swanky Ritz Carlton and even a no-interest loan on her Sullivan St. townhouse. Her poor assistants, whose job descriptions include living in fear of getting fired and catering to the demanding diva's every whim 24/7, earn a paltry $40,000 – equivalent to what their boss makes in one week.

A better gig for kids just out of school lies in swanky Madison Ave. retail, which definitely pays the bills. Roberto Cavalli sales associate Roland Holvey, 24, earns $89,000. "I make more than all my friends right out of college," he said.
The Post covered the whole salary gamut, gathering hard numbers across the spectrum - from the richest corporate chairmen to the dutiful doormen who greet them every morning. Ultimately, the number one moneymaker in Manhattan was Howard Stern--the freshly contracted Sirius radio host will take home $100M next year. I like to think of dear Howard as a paragon of sordidness in a hyperconsumer culture. Anywhere else, this guy would be a t-shirt of the week. In America, he's king.
